How do I drop all of my courses (Complete Withdrawal)?

When you drop your last class, you are withdrawing from the university for the term. Students who wish to withdraw must use DuckWeb to withdraw from one or all their classes. If you have questions about withdrawing, please contact your academic advisor, department office, or an advisor in the Office of Academic Advising. This contact will give you the opportunity to discuss your options and address any questions you might have.

It is important to follow the withdrawal and refund deadlines noted on the Academic Dates & Deadlines calendar. Dates are also listed in the Class Schedule when the CRN of any course is clicked for more detailed information.  Failure to adhere to the deadlines established for withdrawing will result in tuition charges.

SRC and ARC Petitions

If students find it necessary to ask for an exception to academic requirements or procedures, two standing faculty committees meet regularly to hear and act on such requests. The functions of the two committees differ in that the Scholastic Review Committee (SRC) processes petitions that are for previous terms and the Academic Requirements Committee (ARC) processes petitions that are for current terms and for exceptions to graduation requirements.

The Scholastic Review Committee processes petitions for the following:

Students can obtain SRC petitions from the Office of Academic Advising, 364 Oregon Hall, where an advisor will provide assistance in completing the petition. The committee meets as needed and typically on a biweekly basis. Click Here for 2011-12 Petition Deadlines. Petitions to withdraw, change a grading option, or contest a grade are subject to a three year time limit.  Petitions must be filed within three years following the term in question.  Exceptions may be granted only under extreme or highly unusual circumstances.  PLEASE NOTE STUDENTS ARE PETITIONING FOR EXCEPTION TO UNIVERSITY POLICY AND APPROVAL IS NOT GUARANTEED.

The Academic Requirements Committee processes petitions for the following:

  • Reduction in graduation requirements
  • Late registration
  • Adding course/s past deadline (any term)
  • Delete course/s from academic history any term (drop with no W); individual courses only; no financial implication
  • Register for more than 24 credits (any term)
  • Change in grading option (to meet 168ABCDP* or 45ABCD rules for graduation)
  • Selective withdrawal after deadline (weeks 8, 9, and 10)
  • Receive credit twice for same course

Students can obtain ARC petitions from the Office of the Registrar, 220 Oregon Hall. Contact the Office of the Registrar at 346-2935 for more information. PLEASE NOTE STUDENTS ARE PETITIONING FOR EXCEPTION TO UNIVERSITY POLICY AND APPROVAL IS NOT GUARANTEED.

DROPPED COURSE TUITION REFUND PETITION

If a student withdraws from one or some of their courses in a term and would like to request a greater refund than permitted by the Refund Schedule, they must submit a petition through the Office of the Registrar.

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for dropping all their classes (i.e. complete withdrawal) from any term at the University of Oregon.  Failure to do so prior to the published academic deadlines (academic dates and deadlines )will result in refund penalties, financial aid and scholarship consequences, and failing grades that may lead to poor academic standing and possibly disqualification from the University of Oregon.

Students need to pay close attention to the academic dates and deadlines for every term while in attendance at the UO. Please note that deadlines change from term to term, summer in particular.  Students can log into DuckWeb  to completely withdraw from the current term or future terms as well.  It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their class schedule changes and updates are made in DuckWeb  prior to the deadlines posted.

Refund Petition Review Policy

  • PLEASE NOTE STUDENTS ARE PETITIONING FOR AN EXCEPTION TO UNIVERSITY POLICY AND APPROVAL IS NOT GUARANTEED!
  •  The committee will only consider petitions arising from documentable EXTENUATING circumstances.  Refund exceptions are not granted for non-extenuating reasons of work or personal schedule changes, non-attendance without dropping, or being unaware of University Policies. Please note that registration holds do not prevent students from completely withdrawing.
  • Only complete petition forms with accompanying documentation will be reviewed by the committee.
  • Students have up to one calendar year to petition for a refund from the term in which the complete withdrawal tuition refund is requested.  Petitioning for a refund more than one calendar year old will not be considered.
  • The Refund Review committee represents the ONLY appeals process for Tuition Refund at the University of Oregon. ALL COMMITTEE DECISIONS ARE FINAL.

Refund Petition Procedure:

If a student is unable to completely withdraw prior to the refund deadlines  due to an EXTENUATING circumstance, and would want an exception to the University refund policy considered, they must first contact the Office of Academic Advising and schedule an appointment with an advisor to review the possibility for a refund.  After meeting with an Advisor, the student should submit a completed Tuition Refund Petition form and documentation to the Office of Academic Advising (this does not guarantee a refund).  Once the petition form is submitted, the University of Oregon’s Refund Review Committee will carefully review the petition.

Refund Petition Submission and Result Timeline:

The committee meets bi-monthly during regular academic terms, and petitions must be submitted one week prior to a meeting date. Meeting dates and deadlines for the current term can be found here. Students should expect a response to the address provided on their petition within 1-2 business days from the date of review.

The Committee:

The Refund Review Committee is comprised of representatives from the following campus departments:

Office of Academic Advising, Office of the Registrar, Business Affairs, Financial Aid,  Counseling and Testing Center
