The Science Factory:

The Science Factory

The Science Factory is dedicated to playful learning, scientific exploration and hands-on/ minds-on activity for each visitor.  We provide thousands of children the opportunity to explore their curiosity through our exhibit hall, innovative educational programs, planetarium, computer lab, thematic special events, field trips and summer camps.

The Science Factory Children's Museum & Planetarium traces its origins to 1961 when the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry opened a branch museum in Eugene called "SWOMSI". The museum incorporated in 1977 as WISTEC and in 1979 relocated to a then newly constructed facility in Alton Baker Park.  That same facility houses the Science Factory, which changed its name in 2002, and incorporated the Planetarium as part of its overall facility in 2003.  The combined space occupied by the exhibit hall, planetarium, classroom, computer lab, office and storage space is 10,000 sq. feet.  The planetarium has a 40 foot dome and is one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest.

The Science Factory's mission is to engage , excite and inspire children for a lifelong love of learning about science, technology and humanity.
