Hypothesis

The HVAC system in the library of Ash Creek Intermediate School provides cooler conditions than is specified in ASHRAE 55-1992, Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy.

Questions

  2. Does the placement of the thermostat cause the HVAC system to perform in ways which cause thermal discomfort according to ASHRAE 55-1992?
  3. What are sources of heat gain and loss in the library?
  4. Do people feel thermally comfortable in the library, both by the standard of ASHRAE 55-1992 and by survey?
  5. What is the schedule of uses of the library throughout the day?
  6. Is the HVAC system on a schedule, or is it controlled directly by the loads, gained or lost, placed on it by the interior library space?
  7. Do the different volume sizes create different thermal zones?
  8. Does the heat created by the computer lab adjacent to the library effect the thermal comfort of the library?
