November 13, 2009

TO: All Faculty and Staff

FROM: Richard W. Lariviere President

SUBJECT: The Distinguished Service Award

On behalf of the University faculty, I invite you to nominate qualified individuals for one of the University's highest honors, the Distinguished Service Award. Those selected to receive this honor are chosen in accordance with faculty legislation of May, 1956, which provides that recipients be persons "who by their knowledge and skills have made a significant contribution to the cultural development of Oregon or society as a whole." Up to three awards may be given in any one year. The awards will be presented at our June Commencement exercises.

You can download this year's nomination form and view a list of previous winners of this award at http://president.uoregon.edu/distinguishedservice.

Please send nominations to Dave Hubin, Chair of the Distinguished Service Award and Honorary Degree Committee at the Office of the President or by email to hubin@uoregon.edu, by February 1, 2010.

The Committee on Distinguished Service Awards and Honorary Degrees and the Office of the President also seek, on an ongoing basis, your suggestions for possible recipients of an honorary degree from the University of Oregon. These should be sent separately to Dave Hubin. Thank you.
