The Janet Smith House

The Janet Smith Student Cooperative is a co-ed house that caters to graduate students. In all other aspects, the house will operate like the other S.C.A. co-ops in that resources, space, jobs, and good times will all be shared. Joint functions between all three S.C.A. houses will be frequent.

The Janet Smith House holds up to 16 members living in 14 singles and 1 double. Fees, as they do in all the houses, include room, food, utilities, laundry detergent, and toiletries. During the school year, per-term prices are $1,150 for a single, $990 a term for a small single, and $875 for a double.

The namesake, Janet Smith, played an integral role in the pioneering of Eugene's cooperative movement in the 1930's. A U of O employment secretary and advisor to women's co-ops, she helped open the first women's co-op in Eugene. The house was purchased by the Students' Cooperative Association in 1981. Please stop by the S.C.A. office for a tour and a free meal. Our office is located in the Lorax Manner Co-op on 1648 Alder St.
