Volunteers Needed for a Research Study on Hearing Sensitivity; will pay $7 per hour
Our laboratory is seeking volunteers for a research study to develop new tools with
which to evaluate human hearing. If you have normal hearing in at least one ear and
normal vision (either with or without glasses/contacts), please contact the laboratory of
Professor Terry Takahashi in the Institute of Neuroscience at the University of Oregon.

By email (preferred):
- At each session, you will be asked to wear earphones (used exclusively by
you) and look at a computer monitor without blinking for 4-5 seconds. When
prompted, you simply indicate whether or not you heard a sound while you were
looking at the monitor. This is repeated many times. That’s all. A single session
lasts for about 45 min.
- The risks of participating in our experiments are minimal. At no time will the
loudness of the sounds be louder than an ordinary, quiet conversation. You might
develop a slight headache or eye fatigue from prolonged concentration, as you
might during an exam. These symptoms are likely to be very short-lived. You
may, however, stop the sessions at any time, without penalty.
- The data that we gather from you is strictly confidential. Your name or other
identifier, such as your UO I.D., will never be used in any publication or report.
Your information will only be released with your consent.
- You will receive $7 for each session lasting 1 hour or less. You will receive $14
for any session that happens to last a few minutes longer than 1 hour. You may
stop the sessions at any time and still get paid for the time you have been there.
- Thus, you can get rich while you help science! (Or pay for your next shot of
coffee, at least.)
