Honors and Awards: Public Health Service Postdoctoral Fellow, 1951-53; Public Health Service and Rask Oersted Fellow, 1953-55; DuPont Fellow, 1955-56; Alfred P. Sloan Fellow, 1960-65; John S. Guggenheim Fellow, 1969-70; Elected Member, National Academy of Sciences, 1983; Honorary Doctorate, Chalmers University, Sweden, 1983; Fellow of American Physical Society, 1983; Honorary Doctorate, University of Padua, Italy, 1990; Phi Beta Kappa. At Oregon since 1958.


Research Interests:

Miscellaneous studies on the solvation of macromolecules, chain statistics, optical properties of biopolymers, and the theory of polarization spectroscopy.
