Textbook: Algebraic Topology, by Allen Hatcher.
This book usually runs around $36, or you can get it online for free at the following website.

Midterm: Tuesday, November 3, 6pm-8pm.

The exam will take place in 303 Deady.

Final exam: Thursday, December 10, 10:15am, 210 Deady.

Grades: 50% Homework, 25% Midterm, 25% Final.

Some suggested reading: Hatcher, pp. 97-107.

Due Wednesday, October 21: All questions on the following list.
Some suggested reading: First, read about categories and functors in any text you choose (e.g. MacLane's "Categories for the working mathematician", or near the beginning of Spanier's "Algebraic Topology".)
Second, read Hatcher, pp. 115-117 (relative homology). Categories and functors can also be found here, on page 162.

Due Wednesday, October 28: All questions on the following list.

Due Wednesday, November 4: None. But recall that we have a midterm exam on the evening of November 3rd. The exam will cover the material we've talked about through Wednesday, October 28. I will return all your old homeworks on Monday the 2nd. On the exam, you may use any notes you want, or even your textbook---but none of the questions will require them.
