Papers to read for Thursday's seminars.
- On Tuesday, November 7, we will discuss research progress. There is no
assigned reading.
- On Thursday, we will have two seminars. One by Denny Geist (during the
departmental 4:00 pm time slot) and one by Karen Harpp (during our class
time). There are two relevant readings that will help you get the most out
of these two seminars:
- Christie, D.M., R.A. Duncan, A.R. McBirney, M.A. Richards, W.M. White,
K.S. Harpp, and C.G. Fox, Drowned islands downstream from the Galapagos hotspot
imply extended speciation times, Nature, 355, 246-248,1992.
- This is a short paper about the tectonics of the region and is related
to Karen's talk. Should be an easy read.
- Wolf Volcano, Gala´pagos Archipelago:
Melting and Magmatic Evolution at the
Margins of a Mantle Plume
DENNIS J. GEIST1*, TERRY R. NAUMANN2, JARED J. STANDISH3 and others
- This is a longer paper, related to the geology and petrology of the
islands. Relevant to Denny's seminar.
