For Playwrights

Q: “Are one-act plays eligible for the Playwrights Contest?”
A:  The call asks for full-length plays of not less than 30min. in run time.  There is no separate category for one-acts.

Q: “Do you accept musicals?”

A: Yes, however, there is no special category for musicals; they will be judged along with straight plays.  Please send the Book, and a CD with sample song.

Q: “Do you accept children’s plays, or plays for young audiences?”
A: Yes, however there is not special category for children’s plays.

Q: “I have five plays all about the environment. How many can I send?”

A:  Please choose your best full length play and send it.

Q: “When will I know if my play is in the pool of Finalists?”

After reading the first 30 pages of all submitted plays, we will evaluate the submissions to reduce the size of the pool.  We will then request playwrights in the smaller pool send two full paper copies be sent to us by Sept. 15, 2011. Winners will be selected from this smaller pool.  Winners will be announced in December, 2011.

Q: “What if my play has a prior production or public reading?”

A:  As long as your play has NOT had an Equity production, it is eligible.

Q: “Can I send a PDF of my play?”
A:  No, we do not accept electronic submissions.  If your play is one of our finalists, and we intend to produce a workshop or staged reading of it, then we will ask you for a PDF.
