January 23, Saturday, 10:00 to noon. Enjoy a Moss and Lichen Walk led by lichenologist Daphne Stone. Explore the miniature world of mosses and lichens that flourish during our winter season. Bring a hand lens if possible, and meet at the Mt. Pisgah Visitor Center. $3 donation, ($2 MPA members). More info: 747-1504.

January 25, Monday, 7:30 PM. A variety of native bunch grass communities abound in the Nature Conservancy's Juniper Hills Preserve, located East of Prineville between the Ochoco and Maury mountains. Marcia Cutler, botanist, tells of her Preserve experiences at the Native Plant Society's next monthly meeting. Her free talk takes place on the LCC campus, room 109, Science Building. January 26, Tuesday, 7:30 PM. Western Australia's natural history (with an emphasis on birds) is this month's slide talk by OSU professor Fred Ramsey at the Eugene Audubon Society's monthly meeting. The public is invited; the lecture is free. 1645 High Street in the Garden Club Building.

February 6, Saturday. A two hour Winter Twig Walk, sponsored by The Mount Pisgah Arboretum. Learn to identify many native trees and shrubs in winter. You will receive a winter twig guide as well as expert instruction. Meet at the Mount Pisgah Visitor Center. Donation $3 (MPA members $2). For more information call 747-1504.
