WARMUP 1B: R-VALUE


Open the Warmup1 file that you have been working with by dragging it over the Energy Scheming application icon to open it.


The Energy Scheming window should appear on the left and the internet browser window on the right.



1) The elements of the wall may be easily changed. Click on the draw layer icon to change to the takeoff layer (Intro to Warmup step#10). Select Elevations from the drawing file icon. Double click on the south elevation icon. Open the wall specification Wood 1. You can change any of the images or numbers in the boxes by clicking on them. For example, in the box which shows 3" batt insulation, click on the number 3" to change to 4" batt insulation. To change Batt to Rigid insulation, click on the image in the box.
When you are finished with your changes, remember to close the specification window and run calculations by clicking on the icon to the left of the drawing screen.

2) You may wish to do Energy Scheming runs to answer these questions. If you want to compare graphic reports, print them out by selecting Print Energy Performance Report from the File menu and configure the screen like this:


Click the Preview button to save paper.

3) Using the 100 sf south wall previously created (with Wood 3/4" exterior, Wood Stud structure, Batt 3" cavity, and Gyp. Board 1/2" interior), please answer the following questions.

4) Which of the following would increase the heat gain through the wall the most: (There can be more than one correct answer. If an incorrect answer is also selected the entire question will be marked as incorrect)
Print the basecase and then each situation in the questions individually to assess this problem. (remember to always close the spec and calculate so graphic report will update correctly. Also, revert to basecase before applying each change.)

double the insulation
reduce the insulation by 1"
use metal rather than wood siding
use brick as the exterior
