EXERCISE #8B: WHOLE BUILDING REDESIGN (Revised
12/6/02)
OBJECTIVES: In this exercise you will
evaluate and redesign the building from Exercise #8A. In that
exercise, you developed a performance baseline using your design. In
this exercise, you will answer questions related to the energy
performance of the building, then redesign the building and answer
further questions.
PROCEDURE:
1) Exercise #8B involves using Energy Scheming to
evaluate your building, answering questions about the building's
energy performance, redesigning the building, and answering
additional questions.
2) Open your building file from Exercise 8A. Save the file as "(name)
Ex 8B Basecase".
3) Calculate.
4) Go to your browser and choose "Open File..." in the
File menu.
5) Choose "ES_adviceInfo_output.htm" as the file you want to open.
The file is located in the same folder as Energy
Scheming. You will have to navigate your machine's folder
structure until you are in the folder in which Energy
Scheming is located.
6) Enter your last name and your e-mail address. Be sure to enter
these correctly. The results of your exercise will be sent to this
e-mail address (as well as to the instructor).
7) Click and wait for the questions. This can take up to a minute.
Please be patient as questions regarding your building are
generated.
8) Answer the questions. Feel free to go back into Energy
Scheming to find the answers to the questions.
9) After answering all the questions press the "Submit" button.
10) The results of the exercise will be sent to the e-mail address
you entered in step #6 and to the instructor. Return to the course
homepage using the link provided.
11) Make changes to improve the building performance and save.
12) It is expected that you make revisions to your building design
after each cycle based on what you learned from the Question
Generator. DO NOT use the "Back" button in your browser
to resubmit your design for questions. This may result in your old
design being used to generate the questions.
13) Run the graphic report and repeat steps 3 through 11 to
resubmit to the question generator.
14) In Exercise #8C, you will make further changes based on the
second set of questions. Run the graphic report and resubmit to the
question generator. You may use the Question Generator up to three
times. Again, it is expected that you make revisions to your building
design after each cycle based on what you learned from the Question
Generator. DO NOT use the "Back" button in your browser
to resubmit your design for questions. This may result in your old
design being used to generate the questions.
