DESCRIPTION |
| Synovial | Two articulating surfaces contain hyaline cartilage on their ends and have joint capsules which contain synovial fluid to nourish the cartilage |
| Hinge | Motion in one plane: flexion and extension |
| Condyloid | Motion in multiple planes: flexion/ extension, abduction/adduction, and circumduction, but no rotation |
| Plane/Glide | Motion in one plane: slight, like gliding motion |
| Ball and Socket | Ability for distal bone to move in multiple axis: flexion/extension, abduction,adduction, circumduction, and rotation |
| Saddle |
Motion in multiple planes: flexion/extension, abduction/adduction, circumduction, but no rotation Opposing surfaces concave-convex |
