STEPS

1. Determine appropriate weather window for measurements. (i.e., two days with similar DB temperature, RH and cloud cover after sunset.)

2. Using BoxCar Pro software, activate temperature dataloggers to record drypoint temperature at 2.5 minute intervals.

3. Using string and duct tape, hang temperature dataloggers from the ceiling at illustrated locations, 4 feet off of the ground.

4. Set thermostat to 70 degrees Fahrenheit and allow 2 hours for house to reach that temperature.

5. After sunset, turn off furnace, identifying other sources of sensible heat for later replication.

6. Allow temperature dataloggers to record temperature for 4 hours.

7. Turn on furnace.

8. Reset thermostat to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. (This step begins at the same time of day as step 4 with similar climatic conditions.)

9. Prepare fireplace for fire.

10. After sunset, light fire and turn off furnace.

11. Maintain fire for 4 hours, making sure other sources of sensible heat are operating at the same rate as before.

12. Download data from temperature dataloggers using BoxCar Pro software and export to Microsoft Excel for analysis.

13. Repeat as necessary.
