Dennis DixonÕs NCAA Top VIII Award highlighted
the academic accomplishments of the University of
OregonÕs student-athletes during the 2007-08 school year.

The past 10 months saw a total of 90 Oregon
student-athletes earn Pacific-10 Conference or
Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-academic
accolades. That included a full third of those
individuals, 30, who garnered first team
all-academic honors. WomenÕs track led all sports
with 18 all-conference selections, followed by
lacrosse (12), menÕs track (11) and soccer and
softball with eight selections each.

Beyond the league, defensive lineman Nick Reed
earned national first team academic All-America
honors, while nine student-athletes Š Jen May
(womenÕs at-large/lacrosse), Nicole Blood
(womenÕs track/cross country), Joaquin Chapa
(menÕs track/cross country), Darcie Gardner
(soccer), Scott Wall (menÕs track/cross country)
Jessie Chatfield (soccer), Nicole Dobrzynski
(soccer) and Dixon and Reed -- were named ESPN
the Magazine all-academic District 8. Blood and
May are still in the balloting process for their
respective national academic All-America teams,
which will be announced later this month.

Additionally, OregonÕs menÕs basketball team had
the highest Academic Progress Rate in the Pac-10
for the third time in the last four years,
graduating all five seniors prior to the end of
the season. Ernie KentÕs squad, as well as
Shannon RouillardÕs womenÕs golf team, were
honored by the NCAA for posting academic
performances that rank among the best in the
country in their respective sports. WomenÕs golf
scored a perfect 1,000 in the latest APR report.
