Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="=====================_21750546==_" From my conversations with the chair of the IFS, it is "probably too late." Not that this should discourage us, but my understanding is the board has already agreed on the core budgetary issues, and everything has to be out of their hands in the next few weeks. I think we should still respond, but it might be academic at this point. Who actually received the request from whom??? I've lost track. Since the library budgets are part of campus budgets now, I need to be clear with my provost that I'm not just out lobbying on my own, but responding to a RFI. (I don't see Marv's message attached). I would suggest we all respond to the same way: What inflationary factors are you projecting for the next biennium on journals and monographs? What steps will you have to take to cope with these increased costs? Briefly describe what impact inflation has had on your library collection over the past few years. (EX: UO has just cancelled $650K) What increases to you need to prevent further loss of content? What impact has the loss of content had on your students and faculty. Attached are the documents we prepared for the last biennium. Gary, are you going to pull this together? Deb Carver University Librarian University of Oregon Library 541-346-1892 541-346-3485 (fax)
