Presented to Lenn Hannon on the occasion of his retirement from the Oregon Legislature
by the Interinstitutional Faculty Senate on behalf of all public higher education faculty in
recognition of his consistent support of public higher education in Oregon
During the tribute IFS President (2003) Bill Danley stated:
The Interinstitutional Faculty Senate represents the Faculty Senates at all
eight publicly supported universities in Oregon, with over 5,500 faculty
members. The Interinstitutional Faculty Senate and its president Peter
Gilkey of the University of Oregon has prepared a plaque honoring Senator
Hannon, in grateful appreciation of his 30 years of service to us all.
Peter Gilkey also brings with him a special written message from President
Dave Frohnmeyer of the University of Oregon that we will deliver later.
During my 21 years at Southern Oregon University, I have known and
appreciated Lenn Hannon as a friend and ardent supporter of students,
professors, and education in general. The faculty at Southern Oregon
University and all of our universities stand as one to honor this rarest of
all politicians one who follows his conscience, respects the rights of
others, and who fights for principle beyond party lines. Thank you Lenn
Hannon, from all 5,500 faculty members in Oregon; congratulations on your
well-deserved retirement from the Senate, and best of luck in your new
position.
