diglib: DCC Meeting June 20, 2005: Minutes
Below are my notes from yesterday's meeting. Please send
corrections or additions to me or the list -- Carol
******************************************************************
Attending: Bonamici, Brownmiller, Chadwell, Felsing,
Georgitis, Harper, Hauger, Helmer, Hixson, Robare
The meeting began with Faye announcing that the Saskia
acquisition has come in. This consists of digital images
delivered on CD-ROM, reportedly with accompanying
metadata. She also mentioned the Halpern digital slide
collection. Megan Dazey has been trying to do some cleanup
of the index related to the file numbers, preparatory to
handing it off to MDLS. Faye noted that she and Carol
had discussed setting up a small group to try to map out
a workflow for acquired digital content. The initial group
will consist of people from Systems, CDA, and MDLS.
Representatives from different instructional services
or other groups will be involved when the public presentation
phase is discussed.
The group spent the bulk of the meeting discussing the
preservation documents. The group preferred the Feb. 20
draft that Normandy did and suggested a number of changes.
Normandy will rework the draft and send it back out to the group.
The last few minutes were spent discussing the mission statement
and whether it was ready to send on to Library Council for further
discussion. Opinion was mixed, but there was general support
for sending it forward, getting feedback from a broader group,
and then revising it further. Following a suggestion from Andrew,
Carol agreed to try to add in reference to the Libraries' strategic
directions http://libweb.uoregon.edu/general/about/mission.html
before it is brought to Council.
