Our plan...
Review of the syllabus, work-load and schedule. Introduction: Jenny Linstead. who took the course and earned the highest grade. How I intend to use her...
Some procedures for using class time optimally.
- we will be working through three books and 'deconstructing' the argument. If I were an ESPN commentator, I would say 'breaking' down the book. What we want to get at are:
- the essential components of the argument [define??] of each author
- the nature and value of the evidence cited in support of the argument
- we will often be getting some "instant" responses, so please be patient as we master the software
. To do so:
- we will also be putting you into groups and asking you to formulate your own conclusions about class discussion and the conclusions.
- This will be done in a classroom exercise at least once per week. Jenny and I will review and comment and the post them back to you for review.
What qualities make for a successful City? What three qualities do you think a successful city has or should have?
- Consider physical appearance? arrangement / management of public and private space? order and personal freedom? urban density? etc.
- To what extent did the city you you grow up in (or near) share those characteristics?
Method: divide into groups of three to submit the report. Specifically: Of the characteristics discussed which three do you think are most important to a Perfect City? Justify your selection?
Please use the ClassroomReport Tool. On using the tool,
- click on the link above ClassroomReport tool.
- Select "Worksheets for Students".
- When the worksheet menu appears, open (for today) " Perfect City: Characteristics of".
- Please edit within the tool (and do not copy from word documents as they involve too much hidden formatting).
- When you finish click on the 'publish to global view and you will be prompted to enter your names (as individuals).
The the assistants and I will comment on the reports and post them back in time for the next class.

Things you should know about this website (as told by a real Meeteetse citizen):
- When it says "extensive recreational opportunities" there is a good chance they mean drugs.
- You know there is a problem when a community attribute includes, "Housing Available." Desperate perhaps?
- The population is most definitely not 365
- In the Media Gallery under Labor Day Celebration, the picture of the kids stick race. Mary E. Brown has been the reigning champ of that race since 1997.
- Despite what anyone says, this is not the place to raise your children!
"But if you ever pass through definitely go to Lucille's Diner! Its the true Meeteetse experience! As this relates to class, I have realized that this town may be slightly miserable, but even Meeteetse has some of the qualities that we talked about it our "perfect city" discussion. Even the ones that aren't true they still list on their site so it's pretty clear that we aren't the only ones who value those!"
