Dear UO Multicultural Center
,
The Association of Anthropology Graduate Students is seeking financial support from your student organization to help bring Indigenous Shuar health activist Oswaldo Mankash of Ecuador to campus in late May, 2011 to give a public lecture about Health, Development, and Environmental Issues Facing Indigenous Shuar of Ecuadorian Amazonia.
Lcdo. Oswaldo Mankash is a Shuar political leader who holds a nursing degree and has served as Health Director of the Federación Interprovincial de Centros Shuar (FICSH). FICSH represents over 500 Shuar member communities and is dedicated to promote and protect the interest of the Shuar nation. As Health Director, Lcdo. Mankash spearheaded an inter-cultural medical training program and developed community health promoter training for communities without local access to health care. Lcdo. Mankash currently serves as Inter-Institutional liason for the Canton Tiwintza, Morona Santiago, Ecuador, with a population of approximately 5000 Shuar. In addition to his public lecture, Oswaldo will be in Eugene laying groundwork for projects designed to enhance educational opportunities, health and other infrastructure in this area.
If the UO Multicultural Center is interested in co-sponsoring and/or knows of other campus organizations or research centers that might be interested in Lcdo. Mankash’s lecture, please contact our colloquium coordinator Rupa Pillai, rpillai@uoregon.edu for further information. Thank you in advance for any assistance and guidance your organization may offer.
Thank you!

I am a UO Graduate Student in International Studies, and one of my colleagues, Sara Clark, suggested that the Mulitcultural Center may be interested in an upcoming event. I am contacting various organizations and centers on behalf of my friend Gail. Gail and two other women are coming to the Wesley Foundation Center in Eugene to perform “Strong Women” in April. STRONG WOMEN is performed by three women involved in a non-profit theatre troupe using theater performance as a medium to give incarcerated women a voice in public communities. She’s trying to find organizational sponsors to support their travel costs to Eugene. Any amount is greatly appreciated; however, even if you are not available to sponsor, please feel free to contact me or Gail directly if you have questions or would like to learn more about this event to share with students and community members.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best wishes,
Genevieve
