Timothy A. Paul, associate professor and interim director of bands, conducts the Oregon Wind Ensemble and administers the graduate program in wind conducting; he also serves as conducting area chair. He joined the School of Music and Dance faculty in 2004 and holds the D.M.A. in wind band conducting and literature from the University of Colorado and the M.M. in music education from Florida State University.
Ensembles under Paul's direction have performed at the Northwest MENC Biennial Conference, Mid-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Southern Division CBDNA/NBA Conference, the MENC Conference, the Tri-State Band Festival, the Atlanta International Band and Orchestra Clinic, and the All-South Music Institute.
Paul maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor and clinician, conducting a myriad of high school honor bands and collegiate ensembles throughout the United States and internationally. His commitment to new music includes commissions from numerous leading American composers, including Libby Larsen, Carter Pann, and Dan Welcher. He has several articles published in the Journal of Band Research and is co-author of Winds and Hymns: Resource Guide to Hymns, Chorales, and Spirituals in Select Wind Band Literature, published by Meredith Music.
Paul is president-elect of the College Band Directors National Association Northwest Division and is a member of the National Band Association, the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, and the National Association for Music Education.
