Spamvertizing for Scientific Research Publishing

Scientific Research Publishing is a high volume spammer which publishes garbage "scientific" open access journals. It is so bad that it accepted (subject to minor revisions) a fake paper consisting of a randomly generated (by a computer) string of apparently mathematical words and symbols. It apparently makes its money by making authors pay to have their papers published. (See the request for a $500 "processing fee" described here.)

A web search for "Hoople" (part of the name of the fictitious university the author is supposedly from) and "mathgen" (the name of the program that wrote the paper), done 25 October 2012, turned up a substantial number of hits, many of them describing the success of this exploit.

Scientific Research Publishing is listed in Beall's List of Predatory, Open-Access Publishers (2012 edition). The current edition is here. (Also see Beall's list of individual questionable journals.)

Scientific Research Publishing has republished, without knowledge or permission of the authors, a number of papers that have been published elsewhere by legitimate journals. Documentation at Improbable Research; at Wikipedia.

Scientific Research Publishing lists as the editor in chief of its Journal of Modern Physics a Professor Victor Yashnikov, who (as of early 2013) has been dead for about three years. Documentation at this Wikipedia talk page.

I never heard of Scientific Research Publishing until the spams started coming, and I certainly never signed to to receive anything from them, nor did I have any prior business relationship with them. I therefore believe that spamming is part of Scientific Research Publishing's business model.
