OMAS : Office of Multicultural Academic Success
REACH FOR SUCCESS

OMAS' Reach for Success is the University of Oregon's primary visitation program for middle school students of color. Reach introduces students to the university through a Saturday long program of workshops, campus tours, and cultural presentation. Reach for Success focuses on encouraging students to consider higher education as a viable option for their future.

The success of our program is credited to our volunteer students, faculty, staff, administrator, and community members. Each year 80 to 100 university student volunteers spend their Saturday encouraging young students of color to reach for success through higher education.

Twenty-five different classroom workshops are provided by our UO faculty, staff, community members, and administrators.

Changes for 2011

Reach for Success has been suspended for 2011 due to understaffing for the event. Although we do not have the resources to offer Reach for Success this spring, there are two other programs that offer similar experiences for students that you may want to pursue:

University of Oregon Connections sponsored by Admissions:

UO Connections is a half-day college advocacy program designed for first-generation, ethnically diverse, or economically disadvantaged high school students in ninth through twelfth grades. The program provides valuable college prep information. Nine different Connections dates are available during the 2010-11 academic year, allowing the UO to keep group sizes small, and to keep the overall experience more intimate and meaningful.

Raza Unida Youth Conference (RUYC) sponsored by MEChA:

The purpose of the RUYC is to empower youth and give them the necessary tools to access higher education while also giving them an introduction into important issues that are constantly affecting Latino/a and marginalized communities.

The University of Oregon is committed to maintaining critical outreach activities to our communities and we are looking forward to Reach for Success 2012.
