Opportunities for recycling a wide range of materials at the University of Oregon are provided through numerous collection sites placed throughout campus.

OFFICE AND ACADEMIC BUILDING SITES

Easy-to-access recycling sites are located throughout all campus buildings, generally on all floors and in department copy rooms and office suites. Sites offer recycling collection for:

  • White Paper
  • Mixed Paper
  • Glass, metal and plastic food and beverage containers (cleaned/rinsed)

These same sites are also used as collection areas for our crews to pick up other materials not collection in recycling receptacles. Check out our Materials List for items you may be able to leave at these sites for recycling.

COMPOSTING

The UO Campus Recycling Program has composting in all campus kitchens for pre-consumer food scraps; in all public areas at campus food service locations; at all campus student events; at campus catered events upon work ticket request. Any other department that wants this service must pay $5/pick-up for campus composting collection.

PUBLIC DROP-OFFS (OUTSIDE COLLECTIONS)

.More than 30 outdoor collection sites are located throughout campus along pedestrian thoroughfares and near buildings. Mixed paper, and glass/metal/plastic food and beverage containers are collected at these sites. Trash is either located in the collection structure or directly next to these sites.

STUDIO RECYCLING

The Architecture and Allied Arts Department administers numerous studios located in Lawrence and Pacific Halls for use by students in that department. These studios produce materials not generally found in other campus areas. Recycling guidelines specific to the studios have been created and are posted. Each studio has a Bagit system which the occupants are responsible for emptying at a central location The Program also focuses on these areas during each term’s finals week to ensure maximum recovery. Lastly, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety has established a sharps collection system for knife blades at each recycling site.
