In association with the completion of new facilities at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance we are pleased to invite electroacoustic composers and new media artists of any age and nationality to submit their sonic-based works for programming consideration in the Sonic Rain Concert Series. The Sonic Rain Concert Series will feature new electroacoustic and intermedia musical creations with and without live-performers. The Sonic Rain Concert Series represents the commitment of Future Music Oregon and the School of Music and Dance at the University of Oregon to beautifully and musically present great electroacoustic and sonic-based new media works from around the world to appreciative audiences within the intellectually rich environment of a world-class university.
Works may be fixed media stereo or multichannel, with or without videographic components, with or without live performance elements, and created using any methods or techniques. Accepted audio formats are uncompressed, 16- or 24-bit (.aiff or .wav). If an audio work is multichannel, then discrete mono tracks are preferred. Accepted video formats are AVI and QuickTime with an initial submission size limitation of 200MB. (If a work with videographic components is programmed, then a full resolution copy will be requested.) In certain cases, a video of an actual performance may be the most appropriate submission format to demonstrate a composition.
There is no fee for submission and there is no limit to the number of pieces a composer/performer may submit. Please submit each work separately. Submissions will be accepted on an ongoing basis; however, review for the first concert will begin shortly after November 1, 2010. The dates for the first concerts are February 13, and May 15, 2011.
Following acknowledgement of receipt of your submission you will only be contacted if additional information about your work is required or if the series programs your work. Works will be programmed, in part, based on available technical resources, time constraints, availability, and programming balance with rejection not necessarily being a reflection of the quality of the work.
The University of Oregon, the School of Music and Dance at the University of Oregon, and the Sonic Rain Concert Series will not rent parts or pay any fees directly to an individual. We will provide each composer with a PDF of the program that he or she can submit to BMI or ASCAP.
