Quasi-Stellar Objects

This Hubble Space Telescope image of QSO 1229+204 appears to show that the QSO is inside a galaxy.

Also, some QSOs have jets of matter shooting out from them. Have a look at the QSO 3C 273 in Fig 27-3 in your book. It has a luminous jet sticking out of it. Also, look at Fig. 27-17, which shows radio maps of the same object and shows blobs of matter that moved between 1977 and 1980.
