Great Britain's lease on Hong Kong expires in the summer of 1997. This bustling colony is a city on the brink of many things..... it's history and architecture are an illstration of this.
The Chinese Emporers did not desire to have the English introducing and selling opium to their subjects. Something which seems like a proper thing today. The English demanded fair trade and open markets for their products. Hong Kong was an island and small penninsula which was ceeded to the English after they had burned the stupendously beautiful Imperial palace of the Chinese to prove their free-market point. This is a story that is being repeated again today but the players have different names - the results could be even more far reaching.
This site consists of images, stories, postings and discussions of the topics found listed below. In some ways, this is a virtual "architectural/experiencial tour" to, through and around the bursting Metropolis and it's surrounding environs.
Where in the World is Hong Kong?
Where in Asia is Hong Kong?
What are the boundries of the territory?
If sufficient interest is generated in being a "back-seat-driver" as Hong Kong is returned to China, interactive video conferencing and discussions will be initiated in the Fall of 1996. All you need is the WWW and your computer.
