"for expressing technological ties, i have chosen the theme of continuing exploration. As metaphor i have chosen maps and journey. Maps are our guides or instructions for journey into new territory. They are tools to help us find our way. As technology can be a tool to help us explore or world and/or find our way. I am using 2 maps: one old hand drawn and painted map of the 1580's to represent old technology(where we have come) and the other a landsat image ( photograph from a satelite) to represent new technology(where we are going). I wanted to present this exploration on a human scale therefore the swimmer. Also the hand painted petreglyph icons prepresenting "our" focus as we traverse our sea of exploration. The turtle is totemic for many peoples of the ancient world , many believed the turtle carried the earth on her back swimming in the universal sea. Also she is a long lived, and cyclical animal returning to the beach of her birth year after year to lay her eggs(the future generations..."
