Dan Kimble First Year Teaching Award

The Dan Kimble First-Year Teaching Award, sponsored by the Graduate School and the Teaching Effectiveness Program (TEP), recognizes outstanding teaching by Graduate Teaching Fellows (GTFs) who have demonstrated a commitment to professional development and reflective practice. The annual prizes typically are awarded to one first-time lab or discussion section leader and to one first-time sole instructor.

To be considered, applicants should participate in one of TEP’s full-day teacher trainings, or at least two TEP workshops or campus conversations. Department-based or other comparable UO teacher training sessions also may qualify. If you did not attend training through TEP, please submit a description of the teacher training you attended, including the number of hours and curriculum for the training.

In addition, applicants should arrange a video view of one class session through TEP, submit a copy of students’ midterm survey responses and the official end-of-term ratings summary evaluation for one course (or section) taught during the 2013-14 academic year, and include a statement of teaching philosophy. All UO GTFs who are teaching as a first-time section leader or first-time sole instructor during the 2013-14 academic year are eligible to apply. Please complete the online application form. Applications will be reviewed during the summer and the awards will be presented at the Fall 2014 GTF Orientation. Please send only the materials requested; additional materials will not be considered.
