BAT BOY is not your mother’s musical. A romp based on a trash supermarket tabloid that goes from rap to soft shoe in minutes? A ballad entitled “Apology to a Cow?” A love story, of course – but there is an almost voluntary blood transaction and a backstory of – well – bats and unwanted pregnancy. We’d rather not say. A ridiculously unhinged musical that calls for greater tolerance of “freaks” in a world of repressive fear and righteousness, BAT BOY has its “message” – but we’d rather you come for the sheer weird joyous fun of it. You will likely go home with a tune in your head and possibly a worry about your neighbor’s pointy ears.
