Doctoral Candidate Grant J. Silva awarded the 2009 Prize in Latin American Thought

The American Philosophical Association and the APA Committee for Hispanics in Philosophy have selected Grant Silva's essay, "Towards a Latin American Political Philosophy of/for the United States: From the Discover of America to Immigrant Encounters" for their 2009 prize. Silva argues that the base political axioms of the United States make it difficult to think about social justice for undocumented immigrants. A Latin American philosophical approach might be more suitable in dealing with the types of politico-philosophical concerns generated by the reality of human migration. The reception will be at the APA Eastern, December 27-30, 2009, New York Marriott Marquis, 5:00pm-6:00pm, 16th Floor Sky Lobby (Open to all--wine/cheese served).
