Edible Campus

APPLY NOW! The position of Garden Coordinator is available for 2013-2014. Please check out the position description here, and let’s garden!

The Edible Campus’ mission is to create a greater opportunities for the UO campus community to engage in growing food. It is a collaborative initiative headed by the Sustainability Center. The crux of the initiative utilizes the ASUO over-realized fund in development of a student-run community garden (The Grove) and expansion of the on-campus Urban Farm.

The Grove Student Community Garden Update
The new student run community garden is off and running! There are beds formed and plants in the ground. Right now, we have 7 student groups with plots: Climate Justice League, Survival Center, Cascadia, Slow Food, Students for Global Health, C:/MyPlanet FIG, and Food Not Bombs.

Our awesome tool shed is an airstream retrofitted by Product Design to be a tool trailer with mobile: sink, tool washing station, and a pull-out tool caddy (pictured).

We recently had a tiller donated to the garden. It is an old one, but a good one. Once it is fully functional – watch out grass!

Each week we have work parties focused on soil and bed building, composting and planting! The warm weather has extended our planting season.

Join us! Beds are available to student groups (you do not have to be recognized by the ASUO). Or if you need volunteer hours – this is a great way to learn about gardening.

Work parties every Saturday 1:00pm – 4:00pm, 1800 Moss Street.

Urban Farm Expansion (The Green) Update
The Green is the Urban Farm’s expansion site off of Columbia. They too have been very busy building beds and getting the soil ready for an amazing Spring.
