I.      Today, the Senate NTTF Committee continued and completed its review of the AA Committee’s draft Document on Policies, Procedures and Practices for Non-Tenure Track Faculty (NTTF) at the University of Oregon, dated February 21, 2007 (Policy Statement).  Based on its review, the Senate Committee would recommend the following changes to the document:

a.     The document should state explicitly that, once the position of lecturer is created, there will be a transition period in which appointments are reviewed and that those appointments that are appropriate for the rank of lecturer will be assigned a new rank, without the need for a new search.  Text could be added on page 6, under the heading of "Transitions."

b.     The frequency of evaluations for NTTF should parallel the frequency of evaluations for faculty on the tenure track.  For example, if professors are evaluated less frequently after tenure, NTTF may similarly be evaluated less frequently after reaching senior instructor status.  Fewer evaluations for more experienced NTTF would lessen the administrative burden due to NTTF evaluations.

II.    Joan Malmud, Liaison to the Academic Affairs Committee, agreed to send an e-mail to Russ Tomlin, Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee communicating these suggestions.
