Subject: FINAL COMMITTEE REPORT FROM THE FGAC FOR 2005/6

Dear Gwen, Jeanne, and Peter:

The Faculty Grievance Appeal Committee is mandated by OAR 571-003-0012. It deals with all grievances from both Officers of Instruction and Officers of Administration that are not tenure related -- the PTRAC deals with tenure related appeals.

I chaired the FGAC this year. As chair, I dealt with 4 grievances. Three of the grievances were resolved without going to a full FGAC hearing. The FGAC held a formal hearing in conjunction with one of the grievances. As the hearing was "closed" I am unable to comment further on the work of the committee.

The committee functions well; the work load is very variable as grievances come in unpredictably. The work load for a formal hearing is large but managable.

Senate legislation mandates committee reports from all committee chairs or convenors on an annual basis. I should be most grateful of this report by the 2005/6 FGAC could be posted on the Senate Web Page for archival purposes.

Respectfully submitted
