Management Directive 2.021 as approved by the State Board of Higher
Education in 1998:
2.021 Honorary Degrees
Each institution, with the concurrence of its faculty, may decide to award
honorary degrees.
- (1) A institution wishing to award honorary degrees shall adopt criteria
and procedures for selection to ensure that the award will honor outstanding
contributions to the institution, state or society, and/or distinguished
achievement.
- (2) Criteria and procedures for selection shall be forwarded to the
Chancellor or designee for approval.
- (3) An institution with an approved selection process shall forward its
nominations and a supporting case statement for each nominee to the Chancellor
or designee. The annual process should be planned to enable the Board's
consideration at least 90 days before the date for awarding the degrees.
