Dear Gwen.

Senate Legislation requires an annual report from each of the standing University Committees. I have the high honor and priviledge of chairing the Johnson Memorial Award Committee for 2007/8. Here is my annual report concerning that committee.

The committee charge reads as follows: "The Johnson Memorial Award Committee shall be responsible for identifying potential recipients for the Johnson Memorial Award, and forwarding suggested recipients to the President of the University. The Johnson Memorial Award is made annually to a faculty member who by action and word as teacher, as scholar, and as citizen of the academic community has, over a period of years, exemplified commitment to the principles affirmed by the life and career of Charles E. Johnson. Background on this award is on file and available in the President's Office."

The Johnson Memorial Award Committee met today (8 April 2008) and has forwarded, as appropriate, the committees recommendations in this regard to the President of the University. As this is a personnel matter, further details are not available on our recommendations.

I request that this report be posted on the Senate Web Page and linked as appropriate.

Respectfully submitted

Peter B Gilkey Chair 2007/8 Johnson Award Committee
