Dear Frank.

You have filed a notice of motion ( US09/10-8): "The Senate calls on the Provost to explain, not later than 13 January 2009, why he failed to advise the FPC of his actions regarding the tenure and promotion decisions of Spring 2009 (as reported in the FPC 2008-2009 AY Report to the Senate), and to advise the Senate of his intents in this regard with respect to future decisions."

I have received an email from Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Tomlin containing document that is " a note of clarification on practices we have been following to organize the interaction between the provost and his staff with the FPC. There are no new policies in force and the changes in practice described here predate the current provost..." Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Tomlin has given me permission to post his document the web. I shall do this presently and will link the document from the US09/10-8 web page and also from the letters and documents page of the 2009/10 UO Senate. I also shall print said document and distribute to the Senate this forthcoming Monday. I will also attach this document to this email.

With these actions in mind, do you still wish me to give notice of motion on your behalf on US09/10-8 at the Senate this forthcoming Wednesday 11 November 2009?

Respectfully submitted

Peter B Gilkey

Dear Senate Rules Committee.

I have just received an email concerning Motion US09/10-8 pointing out that it is unreasonable to ask the "Provost to explain, not later than 13 January 2009" since that date has already passed. I am blind copying the email to the person who wrote me as a "FYI" as I shall post this email to you on the web.

Respectfully submitted
