Dear members of the UO Senate.
As always, I am sending this as a "blind copy" as large lists tend to be dynamically unstable! Three items of business.

I will also be contacting the Faculty Advisory Council, the Officers of Administration Council, the NTTF Committee, the ASUO, and others concerning the above. I will report back to you with what I get in the way of feedback on these items at the 13 January meeting of the UO Senate, solicit input again at that time, and then proceed accordingly.

All the best.

Subject: Consultation with the OA Council

Dear Tracy.

Can I ask you to forward on this email to the OA Council in advance of the 9 December 2009 meeting of the OAC at 1330 in the Maple room of the EMU? And please express my gratitude to them for fitting me in to their agenda then. There are 3 significant items on which I need to consult them:

a) I am directed by US09/10-9 to appoint members of the University Community to a joint administration/faculty committee concerning State Accountability Metrics that may be part of a new governance structure/relationship to the State Of Oregon. Since I am directed to consult widely, I shall solicit the input of the OAC in this regard this forthcoming Wednesday!

b) I am directed by US09/10-10 to create a Senate Working Group to implement US08/9-8 (this is the motion to establish a publicly accessible, on-line budget reporting system at the University of Oregon that will allow users to track current and retroactive individual university expenditures). Since I am directed to consult widely, I shall solicit the input of the OAC in this regard this forthcoming Wednesday!

c) At the December meeting of the UO Senate I spoke of the possibility that I would organize a town hall meeting for Friday 15 January 2010 concerning various topics related to "unionization" (to use but a single word to describe a complex constellation). Since this date is the beginning of the MLK weekend, this does not seem optimal timing. And, to be honest, in the interests of transparency, it does not seem like a good idea for me to simply proceed without further consultation. So once again, I am going to consult widely and thus I shall solicit the input of the OAC in this regard this forthcoming Wednesday once again!

All the best.

Subject: Request for input from the FAC

Dear Barbara.

I hope you will pardon the small discourtesy in simply forwarding on the following email that I sent to the members of the UO Senate rather than rewriting it! I am writing to you as chair of the FAC to solicit the input of the FAC on the 3 items listed below. I will report any input received from the FAC, and from the other groups I will be writing to presently, at the 13 January 2009 meeting of the UO Senate and then proceed accordingly.

All the best, PBG

Dear Ali and Michele.

I wrote to you a few moments ago as members of the UO Senate to solicit your input on 3 items. I am writing to you once again in your capacity as cochairs of the NTTF committee to ask you to solicit the input from the NTTF committee on these same three items. I am taking the liberty of coping them below if you want simply to forward on this email to the committee members. I will report the input I have received to the Senate at the 13 January 2009 meeting and will then proceed accordingly.

Many thanks! All the best.

Subject: Request for Student Input on 3 items of business

Dear student members of the UO Senate.

A few moments ago, I wrote to you in your capacity as members of the UO Senate to solicit your input on 3 matters. I am now writing to you in your dual capacity as members of the Student Senate as well to inquire how best to solicit input from the ASUO. If you prefer to simply forward on this email as appropriate, I am copying below the 3 items in question. I should welcome opportunity to answer questions briefly from the Student in advance of the next meeting 13 January 2010 of the UO Senate and thus solicit the opportunity to attend either the Wednesday 9 December or the Wednesday 6 January as I guess those are the only two possible venues in advance of the January UO Senate meeting. I am going to copy this to Emma as well as I am not sure of the protocol involved. There was discussion in the UO Senate concerning item (a) as to whether it was wanted for me to appoint student members of the State Accountability Metrics committee directly or whether the ASUO wanted to approach the President's office in that regard. Let me know best how to proceed as what is important is we get the job done with a minimum of unnecessary bother and fuss.

Dear All.

Several of you have pointed out that I did not mean Friday 15 December 2009 of MLK weekend -- that what I should have been referring to was Friday 15 January 2010 of MLK weekend. At any rate, I have put on hold (for the moment) the proposed town hall on unionization pending further consultation with you all. In that regard, several of you have questioned the wisdom of me as Senate President getting involved in a town hall on unionization - that this is a topic the senate should not get involved in (even only implicitly). So I welcome your comments on this specific point. Consult widely and create misprints. Go Ducks!
