The following email message was received by Senate President Gilkey 26 April 2000. It is posted at the request of the author.

Mr. Gilkey -

I just wanted to let you know how disappointed I am that the University  Senate approved UO's membership in the WRC. It's a very bad decision!  It will affect the UO for years to come. As an alum of UO I can see the  downward spiral starting its motion with utmost speed. The University  Senate's decision has alienated not only Phil Knight but many other UO  alums including myself.

All Mr. Frohnmayer and Mr. McDonald do is defend a poor decision. Ten  years from now the UO will be much worse off. The reason will be traced  back to THIS decision while YOU were president of the University Senate.  I hope you and the others on the University Senate are happy to  contribute to demise of the UO. You have caved into a small group of  radical students without considering the long-term effect on the  university (I am sure you're going to say you did consider the  ramifications. If you did, its a serious miscalculation.)

The only people happy about this decision are the supporters to our  north in black and orange. They see how ridiculous this really is.
