Math 251, Calculus 2009 Fall

Time/Place: MTWR 3:00pm-3:50pm @ Deady 306.

Textbook: Single Variable Calculus, Early Transcendentals, James Stewart, 6th edition. We will cover roughly chapters 2, 3, 4.

Grade: Your course grade will be based on your homework, two midterm exams and the final exam. Homework 20%. Midterm I: 20%. Midterm II: 20%. Final Exam: 40%. Midterm: There will be 2 midterms at week 5, and at week 8. In-class. The material covered is subject to change according to actual schedule.
Midterm 1: Oct 26th, in-class. Material: Section 2.1 to 3.5 (2.4 not included). Calculator is allowed; a note card 3" by 5" is allowed.
Midterm 2: Nov 16th. Material: Section 3.5 to 4.7 (4.2, 4.4, 4.5 not included). Calculator is allowed; a note card 3" by 5" is allowed. Missing midterms: There are NO make-up midterms. Your course grade will be adjusted for missing one midterm with valid excuses. Typical adjustment: if you miss one midterm, then your course grade will consist of homework 20%, midterm 30%, final exam 50%. Examples of valid excuses are an illness which has been documented by a physician, or an absence to play a varsity sport (your coach will provide you with a letter). The notes late than one week will NOT be accepted.You CANNOT miss two midterms to get your course grade.

Final: There will be a two hour final exam at the time scheduled by the registrar's final exam calender. Remark: It is required to bring your University ID card for the midterm and the final exam.

Attendance: Please remember that if you miss a class it is your responsibility to find out what happened in that class. Any handout can be found at this site.
