The Pattani River, SouthThailand. This river runs in a west to east
direction from the central peninsular mountain range to the gulf of Thailand and has served as a major
communications avenue from prehistoric times.
A coastal archaeological site near Pattani dating to the early
historic period. This location at Ban Kruse appears to have been a warehouse or storage area for large
quantities of blue on white glazed porcelain ceramics of probably Ming Dynasty and later ages. These
ceramics were essential goods in extensive Southeast Asian trade networks.
