Eduardo Moreira

I was born and raised in Porto Alegre, south Brazil, where I started having piano lessons at the age of 6. My mom always tells a story about the first time I played the piano. It was one day when we were in vacation with the whole family at the beach. There was a piano in the hotel and while everybody was eating breakfast I went to this piano and started trying it. I still have in my memory that the waiter came up to me and asked to “play” a little bit softer. But apparently there was a very sympathetic lady who came to my mom saying that my playing reminded her of a famous song. I am sure she was just trying to be nice, but maybe she actually sealed the course of my entire life: few months later, my mom was signing me up for private piano lessons and since then I have never stopped playing the piano.

It wasn’t until the age of 17, when I entered the school of music at university in my home town, that the piano became more than a simple hobby to me. That’s when I started practicing several hours a day, having lessons with wonderful artists, attending as much concerts as I could, listening to as much music as it was available to me, meeting other young musicians and eventually playing with some of them. During these years as an undergraduate student, I also took part in some important piano competitions, winning some of them but mainly learning a lot from those experiences. I played in several concerts solo, with orchestra and chamber music.

Few years after graduating of BM degree, I went to France to continue my studies at the Conservatory and University of Strasbourg. I lived in this lovely city for almost 6 years and could also travel to several very interesting places in Europe. I met outstanding young musicians and great professional artists. During this time I received my MM degree and two other diplomas from the conservatory of Strasbourg: specialization in piano performance (with the highest honors) and in chamber music. I was also teaching the piano at different schools of music and playing concerts. But, I decided it was time to finish my studies.

As a result of my audition at University of Oregon, School of Music and Dance, I was selected to receive an International Scholar Award and also a Graduate Teaching Fellowship. This is the first time I’m living in the US, here in Eugene OR, where I’m starting my first year of the DMA degree. I’m very excited about the opportunity that has been given to me to study with Dr. Dossin, an artist I truly admire.
