Final Paper Instructions:
This assignment has two related parts.PAPER DUE no later than Monday, March 15:
- Develop a time-line for visualizing the chronology of culture and sites across the Silk Route, especially within the Tarim Basin;
- Add an introductory essay (5 8 pp.) discussing the specific character of three different regions of Silk Road Buddhist art:
- You may choose to do the Buddhist art traditions of Gandhara, Kizil/Kucha region, and that of early Dun Huang.
- Or, if you are more daring, you may wish to discuss the Gandharan tradition, late Kizil, and Tibetan formulations of Buddhist deities.
- In either case, use specific examples to indicate how style changed as the Buddhist tradition crossed Central Asia, or as it was transformed in space and time.
- Use text or end/foot notes to indicate your sources and append a bibliography of all the sources you use. Be sure that your forms of citation are correct. (If you do not already own a manual of style, I would recommend one by K. Turabian, such as her Manual of Style for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations. You can buy a copy at either Smith Family or the University Bookstore.)
- PLEASE NOTE: in this paper, I grade for form, content, and accuracy in the use of sources. If you have any questions at all about the use of sources, please see me ASAP...or at any time in the writing of the paper.
