Textual Notes
1 Joyce's know is clear in draft on level 5--whatever he intended with the apparently ungrammatical construction he forgot by the time of the Corrections (Level 13), for there he changes it to the expected knows.
2 Overlay as yayas... is in red ink with red indices at level 10 on galley 57 (which is fairly evenly divided among red and green overlays). The second y of the first yayas is supplemented by a pencil line making clear that it is not a j--Joyce's pen must have failed on that stroke, though the rest of the overlay is full and smooth.
