Chapter 4, level 5+*: FW: 102.06-103
The poem which concludes chapter 4 must have been drafted on or as a separate
addition to the missing ribbon retyping (level 5+*), incorporating its overlay,
of the level 5 page, BL 47472-289 (JJA 46: 111). Two carbons (level 5+') of
the missing 5+ page survive, BL 47472-290, 291 (JJA 46: 126, 127), lacking
the poem. The page, with the added poem, was retyped again, and appears as
BL 47472-314 (JJA 46: 159), labelled level 6 by the Archive (which I follow)
although as a retyping of a single page it could equally well be labelled
5‡. The Archive does not note that BL 47472-292 (JJA 46: 128), which it labels
5‡, is in fact a carbon of the level 6 page (and should therefore be labelled
6'). The typewriter for the level 6 page is unique to these chapters. No other
machine used for any other page on levels 5 or 6 has a separate exclamation
key, all their exclamations being combinations of comma and apostrophe. And,
also unique, the carbon paper used for level 6' (f. 292) is blue.
