The Department of East Asian Language and Literatures offers undergraduate programs in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages and literatures. Each program enables students to achieve proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the language and to acquire a fundamental knowledge of the literature of the country. The Department offers an undergraduate minor in Chinese, which complements other majors and helps prepare students for graduate study in the humanities, social sciences, and professional schools and for careers in business, teaching, law, journalism, and government agencies.
