Date: March 19, 2006
Party: Paul and Dietrich Belitz
Route: N Ridge/N Bowl
Equipment: AT Skis
Time: Crystal - Saddle in NE Ridge 1 hr 45 mins
Comments: Perfect powder on north-facing slopes
Trip report:
The weather was finally supposed to improve, and Paul recommended the Crystal backcountry. We skinned from Crystal into Bullion Basin, and then up to the saddle between Bullion Basin and Union Creek Basin. The descent down into the latter was nice, but we triggered a few surface slides. After lunch in the basin we skinned back up, staying in the trees where possible, and then followed the ridge to the summit of Point 6,479. Mt. Rainier is an impressive sight from there, and the snow in the North Bowl was perfect. We did this run twice, and then skied back down to our car. It was a perfect day!
