Session Ten
Modeling Workshop
Feb. 6, 1997
Objective:
To see how advanced modeling tools can be used for design refinement in the iterative design process.

III. Advanced Modeling Workshop
Try using FormZ's powerful modeling tools to create a pavillion roof. Work in pairs to create your OWN version, building on the example.
1. Make a complex free form roof:
- From a series of profiles, create a Controlled mesh (C-mesh) roof shape. Experiment with altering the mesh with the control points until you have a profile you like.
- Use Copy with geometric transformations (move, rotate, mirror) to create pieces to combine.
- Triangulate the mesh to produce planar surfaces, if necessary.
- Combine the pieces by Trimming and Stitching meshes (Tutorial 16.5). Experiment with the different Trim/Stitch options.
2. If time allows, try the following:
- Following the example, insert a vertical face, make it a mesh and try extending segments to the roof faces.
- Look at how you can use the Deform functions to make interesting variations on the roof.
- Create some walls with the 3D enclosure. On the vertical faces of the walls, try inserting solids for bays or elevation articulation. Try inserting openings for windows and doors.
- Try attaching small objects (i.e. lighting fixtures) to the faces of your roof.
