To explore and present a specialized topic related to design collaboration

To develop research skills such as hypothesis creation, data gathering & analysis, conclusion synthesis

description

Create a Web presentation which explores a timely issue related to design collaboration. The presentation should be the equivalent of a 6 to 8 page paper.

1. Develop a topic and narrow it so you can become an expert in this particular way of looking at the topic.

2. Frame your topic in the form of a hypothesis or question to be answered. For example, "Does audio communcation enhance application sharing of drawing software?"

3. Gather information: Use the library and Internet resources to develop a basis for understanding the topic. You can start from the class optional readings and Web listings. Gather first-hand knowledge by trying out the technology and talking with people who are involved with it.

4. Plan your presentation / discussion, working with your classmates assigned to the same day. Perhaps select a short reading or Website to be shared and give the class a question or two in advance if possible. Use the class session to develop your ideas on the subject.

5. Present your ideas on the Web which including:

A. Introduction: The topic description, context & underlying assumptions. Statement of your hypothesis: Proposed explanation of the observed phenomenon

B. Observations & measurements which test the hypothesis. Include others' work as well as data personally collected. Include graphic examples and Weblinks.

C. Discussion & Analysis: Explain how the collected information supports your hypothesis or how the original hypothesis has to be modified.

D. Conclusion and summary
